Heritage
A little history.
The southern beaches were fishing coves until the 1980s. Karon's sand famously squeaks underfoot; Kata Noi is hemmed in by hills and stays quiet even in high season. Cape Promthep, the island's southernmost point, holds a shrine to Phra Prom and an elephant sanctuary at its lighthouse — Thais have come here to watch the sun drop into the Andaman for generations.
