Heritage
A little history.
Kamala has always been the gentler neighbour to Patong: a Muslim fishing village at the north end of the bay, with a mosque, a school and boats pulled up on the sand. The 2004 tsunami hit it hard, and the rebuilt village keeps a memorial garden at the beachfront. The headland road that climbs south towards Kalim earned its nickname in the 2000s, when the cliffs filled with the island's most expensive villas — and some of its best sunset restaurants.
