Heritage
A little history.
Kalim is the northern shoulder of Patong Bay, and it kept the quiet its neighbour lost. Where Patong was cleared for hotels in the 1970s, Kalim stayed a rocky shore of fishing moorings and sea-wall promenade, and its steep hillside was left to villas and terraced restaurants. In the north-east monsoon the swell wraps into the bay and the surfers arrive; the rest of the year it is simply the calmest stretch of coast within walking distance of Patong.
