Heritage
A little history.
Begun in 2004 and funded entirely by donations, the Big Buddha sits on the Nakkerd ridge between Chalong and Kata, clad in Burmese white marble. Below it, Chalong Bay was the island's main anchorage long before the west-coast beaches drew visitors, and its pier is still where boats leave for Coral Island and the bays to the south.
