Boat Lagoon, Phuket

Karma Royal Boat Lagoon sits in Phuket's yacht marina on the quiet east coast. From here the old town, the Big Buddha, the west-coast beaches and the islands of Phang Nga Bay are all within easy reach.

About The Area

Life around Boat Lagoon.

Boat Lagoon is Phuket's first marina, on the island's sheltered east coast in the Koh Kaew district. Superyachts and sailing boats line the boardwalk, with cafés, a supermarket, boutiques and waterfront restaurants a short stroll from the resort.

The east coast is calmer and greener than the busy west-coast strip. Phuket International Airport is around 25 minutes away, Phuket Town about 20 minutes, and the beaches of Kamala, Surin and Patong roughly 30 to 40 minutes by road. Boat trips to Phang Nga Bay, James Bond Island and Koh Phi Phi can leave straight from the marina.

A Little History

Stories of the past.

For centuries Phuket was known to traders as Junk Ceylon, a stop on the sea route between India and China. In 1785 the island's two heroines, Thao Thep Kasattri and Thao Si Sunthon, led the defence against a Burmese siege, and their monument still stands at the Heroines' Roundabout near Boat Lagoon.

In the 1800s tin mining made Phuket rich and drew thousands of Hokkien Chinese settlers. Their shophouses gave Old Phuket Town its colourful Sino-Portuguese streets. Tourism took over from tin in the 1970s and 80s, and the Boat Lagoon marina opened in the 1990s as the island became a sailing hub of the Andaman Sea.
