Karnak Nile Cruise · The Nile Valley, Egypt
Esna
The river lock and the painted Temple of Khnum, sunk below the level of the modern town.
Sailing distance from Luxor
First stop south of Luxor
Heritage
A little history.
Every boat heading south passes through the Esna lock, a slow and strangely social piece of river theatre. The town's Temple of Khnum, dedicated to the ram-headed creator god, lies several metres below street level, its columns still carrying vivid painted ceilings.
