A little history.
The Temple of Horus at Edfu was buried in sand for centuries, which is why its towering pylons, colonnades and falcon-god carvings survive so completely. Built over some 180 years in the Ptolemaic period, it remains the finest surviving example of an ancient Egyptian temple.
