A little history.
Founded in the 10th century as a spice-trading town, Montpellier became a centre of medicine where Arabic, Jewish and Christian scholars taught side by side; Nostradamus and Rabelais both studied here. The Place de la Comédie and the Peyrou aqueduct came with its 17th and 18th-century wealth.
