Costa del Sol · Andalucía, Spain

Tarifa

Where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean: wide open pale sands, kite sails and the coast of Africa on the horizon. As the light softens, the whitewashed old town turns romantic — mojitos on cobbled lanes, candlelit terrace tables and low-lit bars that stay easy and unhurried until late. Open year-round, at its warmest from May to October.

Heritage

A little history.

The southernmost town in continental Europe, named after the Berber commander Tarif ibn Malik who landed here in 710. Its 10th-century Guzmán castle guards the strait, and the Roman city of Baelo Claudia lies in ruins along the beach at Bolonia. Morocco sits just 14km across the water.
