Roman Salduba, then Moorish Marbil-la — the old town still follows its 10th-century Arab street plan, with fragments of castle wall behind Plaza de los Naranjos. Its modern life began in 1954 with the Marbella Club, which turned a village of 900 people into the Mediterranean's most enduring glamour address.
